Valerie Fox
Equine Specialist
Valerie has ridden since before she could walk. She grew up with horses and started Fox Equine Rescue in 2012 after learning that many good, use-able horses are kept in less than ideal conditions, (abuse, neglect, starvation) and many more are taken to auction. She started offering Horsemanship and riding lessons with only 2 horses and now helped 8 horses find their purpose as lesson horses with different specialties - beginner, advanced, jumpers.
Amidst the pandemic in 2021, Valerie started a Wellness & Leadership program with Deana Hsu, focusing on social-emotional learning, leadership, and horsemanship. In the future we hope to offer a similar program for at risk and foster youth.
Valerie is a part of the natural horsemanship movement. She puts an emphasis on listening to the horse and using non-forceful communication to reach mutual partnership and true bonding. She believes it is never, ever the horse's fault. She has discovered that many horse’s issues are due to how they have been treated (or not treated), and/or holes in the foundation of the horse’s training, or a myriad of other aspects from the horse’s past. There is no one “cure” or “fix” for a horse with issues, but we approach the subject with gentleness, leadership, and a desire to help every horse achieve its potential in a happy, healthy environment conducive to rehabilitation.
Valerie teaches students from beginners to advanced, children and adults. She teaches basic horsemanship with an emphasis on learning while having fun, whether it's English, Western, Bareback, jumping, western pleasure, or simply for the love of horses.
